Skype + Trillian = SkyLlian

I am a big fan of the Trillian Instant Messenger, which is an IM client, able to handle ICQ, MSN, AIM, Yahoo! and Jabber. With plugins you can even use it for Lotus Sametime and Novell Messenger. But one thing was always missing: Skype! I mean the cool thing about Trillian is that you only need one contact list for everything. But also using Skype means two contact lists open. Now, there is the solution: SkyLlian. It is a Trillian plugin that puts your Skype contacts in your Trillian list and lets you use Trillian to chat and voice chat. The downside however is that you still need to have a Skype client installed and run in the background. Hopefully they will get rid of that in the future that you really only need a Trillian. Anyway it is a great step in the right direction.

Nice. But I would just add a little clarification on why Skype needs to be running in the background. With Skype, chats are different from other solutions that require a central server. Skype chat doesn’t use servers, it’s fully P2P, and thus having Skype running on your desktop is required because there is no central server to talk to, you talk to the client running on your desktop.

    hi there

i completely understand the point of skype running in back ground….it is programmed differently …

we are forgetting the whole purpose of trillian here ….trillian is there for us to end the problem of using different messangers….to provide a universal service for all so that we dont need to download each and every thing

if you have to have skype + skyllian to run it on trillian that i strongly think as a developers point of view the purpose is defeated….

    i hope u understand…

also do you know anything about the new skype type “Gizmo Project” lot of people have started using it i think u should bring out a plugin for that too for trillian…..but agin keeping in mind the purpose of trillian is not defeated

    Regards
and best wishes to all hard working developers

The website is not working. It seems there are some changes. Read here http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=81142

Hope they will put out a new version that works better then the old one. But actually, since a while ago I completely switched to Skype anyway since it is much better then MSN, ICQ, etc. I am rarely using Trillian anymore.
