The Ring two is the sequal of a remake or a remake of a sequal. Confused? Here it goes: 1998 the Japanese horror movie Ringu came out. The story was that there was a mysterious video that killed everyone who watched it within 7 days. As with all successfull foreign movies, the Americans didn’t dub it or show it with subtitles, but they remade it. The result was the movie The Ring which was really scary and intense. Often the remakes are said to be not as good as the original, but in this case I found it was the other way around (I saw both versions). Then the sequal of Ringu, Ringu 2 was made. Actually it came out even before The Ring in the American version. Anyway, this year The Ring two came out which is again a remake of Ringu 2. So I guess now you understand the above
Actually while browsing on IMDB I found even another remake Ringu, apparently a Korean movie.
It has been a long time since I watched Ringu 2 but as far as I remember The Ring two pretty different from the original, but as it has been a long time I might be wrong. Overall I found it not as good as the first part but still good enough to scare the heck out of me. Hideo Nakata (the director) really achieved to combine shock effects (that is when you jump out of your seat) and a bone chilling ground tension. Normally horrormovies either create an ongoin suspense or fire an arsenal of shock effects your way, but this movie is great in both. The music and the cutting techniques do the rest.
I gave it a 4 because it was really good, but not as good as the first part. However if you like one, you will also like the other.
By the way, more movies then you probably think are remakes of foreign originals. Here is a list.
