My site’s new face

Thursday, January 18th, 2007

As you probably already saw, something has changed on my page. Didn’t notice? Look up top! I decided that it was time for a change. With a heavy heart I deleted my old headers with the Paris photos which where sort of like the face of my site for a long time. But since I am in China now for quite a while I figured it was about time to delight you with some new photo headers. All of them where taken here in China. They are all quite different and show the various and infinite impressions of this huge county.

So enjoy, as you probably have to visit my site quite often to see them all (its 22 in total).

First post after the blackout

Saturday, January 13th, 2007

Finally things are getting back to normal here in China, Internet wise. All you not in China probably did not even know how bad it was. Over one week no internet at all. After one week you could sometimes access foreign websites but with loading times that reminded me of times when 14.4 still had a meaning. Now the internet is sort of back to normal but still not up to speed yet. They say the complete repairs will take at lease till the end of the month. Till then this means satellite connections which are much slower then cables.

It is scary how fragile this technology really is. One quake can kick a third of the worlds population back to the informational stone age. Anyway I am back so regular blogging in the future.

Back again!

Hi you folks out there, reading my blog,

I know I have not been active blogging for an aweful long time. The reason for this is that there have been many important things going on in my life that required my undivided attention. One of those things is that I got married, another one is my preparation for my stay in China, including pretty intense language courses.

So now that the day of my departure comes closer and closer I finally thought it was time to start my blog back up. I got the most important things sorted out by now, only some bits and pieces left before I go.

So I promise to keep y’all up to date how things go in China and what I am experiencing. Also check out my photo section as I post lots of pictures.

That that shall be it for tonight, more to come soon…

Good night everyone!

ClustrMaps

Tuesday, January 31st, 2006

I just came across a neat service that falls under the category "visitor-maps". As you might have noticed, I already use a service called Blogflux MapStats, which uses Google Maps to display the origin of my visitors. ClustrMaps shows your visitors on a map as clusters of varying size and lets. As an aside: It seems to be quite a hype these days to omit the "e" in names, like in Flickr and now in Clustr.

The service is free for sites with less then 1000 visitors daily otherwise it costs $ 9.99 a year or $ 0.99 per month.

It is working again!!!

Saturday, November 5th, 2005

After my I could not post anything for a few days, my blog is now up and running normal again. Here’s the story: Three days ago I wanted to post something and when I opened the admin interface I got an error 500: internal server error. I checked the WordPress support forum but nothing useful. Then I called the 1&1 hotline and the guy at the other end told me that they made an update of PHP from version 4.4.0 to 4.4.1, due to the recently discovered security holes. I was pretty sure that was the cause of the problem. They told me to make changes to my code but without any server logs I didn’t know where. So I posted in the WP support forum but no answer worked. Today I tried it by chance and it worked fine.
Hopefully it stays this way.

Google recently launched its own blog search engine. If you have pings enabled then you are all set and your blog is most likely already indexed.

Steal These Buttons

Sunday, May 29th, 2005

Did you also see these nifty little 15×80 linkbuttons in peoples blogs or homepages that look something like this:

Get Firefox

They look cool, huh? If you also want those buttons you can make you own using a nice GUI by Kalsey:
Button Maker :: Kalsey Consulting Group

And here is the post that started off the whole idea:

Here is another tool I just found, that can even use little images:
